Let’s talk about this terribly popular New Age myth that’s stickier than spiritual honey in an unwashed chakra:
“I chose to incarnate. I chose this body. I chose these parents. I chose this life.”
Oh sweet stardust.
Most of you didn’t choose your incarnation with the conscious grace of a yogi picking ripe mangoes off the Tree of Dharma.
You fell into it. Like a hungry cat chasing a mouse in its dreams, you were pulled, slurped! — right back into the physical realm by your most unexamined cravings.
Let me explain it like this:
Imagine going to bed with a belly full of cheese and falling asleep watching action movies.
You wake up dreaming you’re a lactose-intolerant stuntman.
That’s incarnation.
When most beings leave their bodies, unless they’re ascended masters, bodhisattvas, or stubborn light beans on divine assignment, they do not float into the Council of Cosmic Choices with clipboards and mood boards.
They get tugged by karmic spaghetti: the leftover longings for cake, connection, climax, control, chaos…
And bam! back you come, feet-first into a womb, wondering why it smells like vitamins and unresolved parental issues.
You think you “chose” your parents?
No honey. Your strongest unresolved desires just happened to vibrate nicely with that one couple arguing about baby names under a full moon in Portugal.
This isn’t any kind of judgment, but mechanics.
Like gravity for the soul.
Let’s take the classic “I chose this body to learn lessons.”
Darling, if you had truly chosen with full awareness, would you have really picked knees that click like haunted maracas every time you go up stairs?
Or a digestive system that rebels against lentils, even though you’re in your “high-vibration” phase?
Now, does that mean incarnation is a mistake?
Of course not.
It’s just… less of a choice and more of a magnetism.
Until you learn to thin your vibration: lighten up, literally, you’ll keep getting pulled back like lint to a cosmic sweater.
Physical life is just the crusty crouton version of your astral soup.
You don’t fix things by chewing harder on the crouton. You heat the soup. You change its ingredients.
So what’s the way out?
You become less dense.
Not like forgetting your wallet and floating away giggling.
I mean you stop clinging.
To food.
To form.
To fame.
To your cousin’s opinion of your Instagram mantra posts.
You stop reacting like an emotional pancake flipping on every hot surface of life.
You get quiet. Clear. Light.
You become like an empty teacup that Spirit can fill, instead of a bubbling soda bottle shaken by every impulse.
And then, only then, your “next life” isn’t a consequence. It will be an offering.
So next time you hear someone say “I chose this incarnation,”
Smile kindly and ask them:
“Did you also choose your dentist? Your ex? Your birthmark shaped like a potato?”
Because if you did:
Well, bravo. You’re probably a bodhisattva with a great sense of humor.
And if not:
Welcome to Earth, darling. It’s chaotic, it’s beautiful, it’s sticky,
And none of us are getting out with clean hands.
Unless, of course, we dissolve them.
