Hello shiny dream-builders, it’s me, Maya, skipping in with my long ears wiggling like antennas for silly wisdom.

Do you know what I would teach if I was the headmistress of Earth School? The very first class would be called “How to Play With Thoughts.” Because thoughts are like crayons: if you only ever use the gray one, of course your drawing looks gloomy. But what if you pick up the yellow crayon of kindness, or the pink crayon of wonder, or the green crayon of possibility? Suddenly your whole page sings.

Negative thoughts are not monsters; they’re more like socks turned inside out. They’re uncomfortable until you flip them back. You don’t throw away the sock, you just turn it the right way and laugh at how silly it looked before.

An intentional mind is like steering a kite. If you let it flap around, it smacks into trees. But if you hold the string gently and choose the wind you ride, the kite dances exactly where you want it to.

So whenever a thought says, “You can’t do it,” give it a mustache and a funny hat in your imagination. Suddenly it’s just a clowny little thought wobbling off the stage. Then invite in the clear ones: I can. I choose. I dream awake.

Children should learn this before math, before spelling, even before recess: You are always painting the world with your thinking. Choose your colors like the artist you are.
