Thanksgiving 2021 by Valerie Donner
It's Thanksgiving Day. Mom's not around. We've looked everywhere. She's not to be found.
We're breaking a tradition. Yes, we are. Mom's not part of it. She's not up to par.
We each get to choose How to care for ourselves. Some bodies need one thing And others repair themselves.
It's not natural To shut loved ones out, To make choices, To give other ones clout.
No matter what you think Or what you do, External forces Don't care about you.
It's love in the heart That is most important. Do not forget this Even for a moment.
Fear is the divider. Love is the glue. Whatever choices you make I will still love you.
Be true to your body. Your DNA speaks. Blood is thicker than water. Choices are not for the meek.
Family traditions Are blowing in the wind. Strange warmongers Have now become kin.
Be careful. Take good care. The freedom to choose Must still be there.
